Finding Financial Assistance

By Chris Palmer

The monthly out-of-pocket price for similar cancer drugs with the same effectiveness can vary greatly. Yet doctors are generally unaware of the cost of the drugs they are prescribing or how much of the cost their patients will pay. If you have concerns:

• Ask your doctor for a referral to your hospital’s oncology social worker.

• See if your doctor knows of less expensive options for treatment.

• Ask to speak with your cancer center’s financial counselor.
